A LORRY driver has had a close call after it nearly got stuck under a Romsey bridge.
A lorry came to a halt in the market town yesterday after it almost got stuck under Romsey's Sun Arch Bridge in Winchester Road on April 11.
Councillor Mark Cooper from the Tadburn saw the lorry driver struggling to drive under the archway.
He said he "guided" the driver "very slowly" under the bridge as there was only about "two inches of leeway."
The news comes after another lorry brought the town to a standstill after it got stuck under the railway bridge at Greatbridge road in Romsey in December last year.
The road was closed for about three hours in both directions due to the collision and all railway lines between Salisbury and Romsey were blocked.
Motorists were left queueing while workers from RD Avery recovered the vehicle.
