A TEST VALLEY girl guides are in need of more volunteers.

Romsey Girl Guiding Division is appealing for people to volunteer for the organisation which provides opportunities for young girls across North Baddesley, West Wellow, Lockerley, Braishfield, Nursling and Rownhams and Romsey.

Currently the division has 50 girls on its waiting list who are unable to join due to a lack of volunteers.

A spokesperson from the organisation said: “Girls in Romsey Division area are currently missing out on opportunities for adventure and trying out new activities with their friends because there aren’t enough volunteers to run and support Girlguiding groups.”

The number of girls on the waiting list is enough to start two new groups in the borough if more people step forward to volunteer.

The charity offers girls a space the opportunity their confidence, have adventures, develop their skills and have fun.

Last summer the guides unveiled a revamped programme of activities and badges, bringing everything up to date to create a unique and extensive choice of activities which reflects the diversity of girls and modern life in the 21st century.

New badges include entrepreneur, inventing, navigator, crafts and self-care.

Elaine Urben, the division commissioner, said: “We want to give more girls and young women the chance to join Rainbows, Brownies, Guides or Rangers in 2019, but for this to happen we need more people to volunteer.

“Any amount of time you can give will be appreciated, whether it’s helping at meetings once a month or coming along every week.

“Whatever your skills, interests or experience, we can find a role for you.

“All you need is enthusiasm and a willingness to laugh and have fun.”

Amanda Medler, Girlguiding chief guide, said: “Fun and friendship are at the heart of girl guiding.

“We now have our new programme of activities and badges so it’s an exciting time to join Girlguiding for anyone who wants to play a role in inspiring the next generation of girls and young women.”

Anyone who signs up to be a volunteer will receive training from a team of experience girl guiding leaders.

All volunteers will also be given a mentor.
