A ROMSEY care home hosted an art festival as part of dementia action week.

Across the country last week numerous activities took place as part of dementia action week in which aims to raise awareness about the disorder.

In Romsey, a number of activities took place as organised by Romsey Dementia Action Group.

Abbotswood Court Care Home in Minchin Road also hosted an art festival.

The event was co-hosted by Prescription art Test Valley, Art Dementia New Forest and Green Buttercup.

Participants living with and without dementia were offered complimentary painting workshops and model making throughout the day.

A spokesperson from the care home said the event “was a fine example of how art can be not only enjoyable, but therapeutic and where people young and old, living with and without dementia could enjoy an experience together.

“One resident from Abbotswood Court who lives with dementia was lucky enough to have her portrait painted just in time for her 102nd birthday.

“The real message is that for a day, people young and old, living with and without dementia were able to engage in, and enjoy an activity together.”

Social media users took to Facebook to share their thoughts on the event.

One Facebook user said: “ A most enjoyable afternoon, so lovely to see all the beautiful art work and the delight on the faces of the participants , thank you to all those involved.”
