Residents of Romsey and the surrounding areas are keeping active with aerobic classes with a difference. The ‘Pom-Fit’ or cheerleading classes help people to socialise, keep fit and enjoy some time in a safe and friendly environment.

Regular attendee, Sue Fay, 59, said: “It’s honestly improved my life. I am a carer for two people, and this is time just for me. It gives me the time to forget my all worries, pick up my pom-poms and be me for a couple of hours.”

Budding cheerleader, Jane Trim, 68, said: “I love learning the new dance moves and routines, and the music is always fun and always helps to motivate me.” The classes are held every Monday at 12.45 to 2.45pm in the United Reformed Church Hall in Romsey by a local ‘Live at Home Scheme’ run by MHA charity. Sessions cost a suggested donation of £4 and include refreshments. Charity Manager, Sarah Maidment said: “We are a community-based scheme and our social clubs cover the whole of the Test Valley. Our aim is to get people out and about and doing activities to enrich the quality of their lives. We are currently looking for volunteers to help us lead and socialise with the classes. No experience is required, just a willingness to engage with the class and have lots of fun!
