A FATHER and son are set to perform together at Romsey Abbey.

Phillip Daish- Handy, the conductor of the New Forest’s professional chamber orchestra will take to the stage at Romsey Abbey alongside his father, professional cello player Lionel Handy who is set to perform as a special guest.

Lionel has been a musician all of his life and has contributed to the music on films such as Harry Potter and Shrek.

He also teaches at Winchester College as well as the Royal Academy of Music.

Phillip, 35, set up the New Forest’s professional chamber orchestra in 2017 and said that they are “the only professional orchestra that operates in the New Forest.”

When asked how he was feeling to perform alongside his dad Phillip said: “It is going to be really exciting as he taught me everything that I know.

“Music was in my family from a young age and I was used to learning a world class standard of music.

“It will be nice to perform alongside him as a colleague.”

Phillip added that he was “buzzing” to play at Romsey Abbey.

He said: “It is such a good venue and the acoustics are amazing.

“We encourage young people to come along and see some great music.”

Currently more than 100 tickets have already been sold and the orchestra will compromise of 20 musicians.

The performance will take place on June 22 at the Abbey at 7.30pm.
