Humans will be taken for walkies as an event celebrating our four-legged friends marks its fifth anniversary.

Barky Malarky returns to War Memorial Park on Sunday, with canine companions welcome to bring their human owners along to enjoy the days events.

Organised by a small committee of dog lovers to raise money and awareness for charities that fund canines that assist the public, the event has grown in popularity in the last five years.

Co-founder of Barky Malarky Clair Ramshaw said: “People see their dogs as part of the family now and the way that people treat them has changed.

“The ethos of Barky Malarky is helping our four-legged friends who help us, so we want to create a fun atmosphere for everyone who comes along.”

As well as visitors to the event being able to see all the different breeds of pooches, there is an opportunity for people to ‘have a go’ at some of the arena events.

This includes training guidance and demonstrations from dog experts which people can try their hands at.

There will also be 12 different classes for the dogs to strut their stuff, including rescue dogs, fancy dress, waggiest tail and of course, the best in show.

Anyone can enter any dog in the shows as long as they are over six-months-old.

This year, the Barky Malarky event will be raising money for Hampshire Search and Rescue Dogs and Medical Detections Dogs.

Clair added: “We have always supported Hampshire Search and Rescue Dogs as they do such an incredible job with helping former working dogs.

“And Medical Detections Dogs are linked to what I do as a day job and helping with the training in dogs, so we just want to give something back.”

The event will take place in War Memorial Park from 11am on July 21. For more information visit barkymalarky.co.uk.
