TWO BANKERS cycled 1000 miles helped raise more than £6500 for a Romsey charity.

Adam Sherman and Rob Silk, both from Romsey, raised more than £5000 themselves for Romsey Cancer Support Centre, Jane Scarth House.

The pair work for Santander and started their expedition at Santander's London Headquarters, and finished at Santander's Madrid Headquarters in Spain.

Adam Sherman, Community Hub Director at Santander Southampton, said: "It was challenging but really good.

"It was my first time I have ever done two consecutive days of long riding, let alone 12 days.

"Some days were 100 miles a day, it was very draining but great fun."

Adam and Rob decided to raise the staggering amount for the Jane Scarth House because Jane Scarth is Adam's mother-in-law who lost her battle to cancer 25 years ago.

Jane Scarth once worked at the Romsey Santander branch, as did Rob Silk.

The 33-year-old added: "Rob has a little more experience in riding than me, he rode across America for 3 months but he still found it very challenging.

"The hardest part of the journey was travelling across the Pyranees Mountains."

Santander also said they would match £1500 and donate to the cause.

More than £6500 was raised for Jane Scarth House, a charity in Romsey which provides emotional and practical support to anyone whose life is affected by cancer.
