ROMSEY cadets took part in an annual air cadet football tournament.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wing took part in the annual junior football round robin tournament for the South West Region of the Air Cadets.

Cadet Sergeant Noah Whalvin joined teammates from around the county captaining the side from the centre back position.

The first match was against the side from Devon and Somerset Wing, the game was end to end with chances at both ends but a nil-nil draw was the result.

Hampshire's next game was against a very strong side from Bristol and Gloucestershire who were the eventual winners.

The penultimate game was against a well-coached side from Dorset and Wiltshire Wing, which ended in another nil-nil draw.

The final game against a combined team from Cornwall and the Thames Valley and finally saw the side in sky blue breakout and score a total of four goals to claim victory.

The Hants and IoW side picked up a well-deserved bronze medal for their efforts.

Sergeant Whalvin was selected to travel later in the year with others from across the Region to play at RAF Cranwell against Air Cadets from all over the UK.

He said: "I was very pleased to be asked to captain the side and considering that it was the first time most of us had played together I think we did well.

"I am surprised to make the Region side, but I look forward to the challenge."
