A parents and teachers are fundraising for a new £18,000 play area for a Test Valley school.

Romsey Primary School is seeking for a new play area as the number of children is set to double to 500 over the next few years.

The current play trail, which was built in 2009, was funded by PTA group Friends of Romsey Primary School (FoRPS) and now they are fundraising for the new one.

For the last two years, the FoRPS members have worked hard to raise money towards this project through various fund-raising events, from film nights to summer fayres - they now have £9,000 set aside specifically for this.

Chairman of FoRPS, Emma Le Bas, said: "I think it would be incredible for that to happen in the near future so that the parents, staff and children who have all worked so tirelessly over recent years can see their fund-raising ideas and hard work all come together to benefit both those children who were there at the start of this journey and the new children coming into our Romsey Primary family.

"The play trail is loved by all the children - I’ve seen first hand it be a place where they challenge themselves, connect with each other and simply have some much needed down-time and just be children."

FoRPS are aiming to reach their final target of £18,000 and Emma is urging for help from the community and businesses to achieve the play area.

She added: "However with the school now increasing in size year on year it’s very soon going to be too limited for the numbers using it which is why we’re so keen to develop and expand the available pieces of apparatus as soon as possible so this wonderful attribute to the school can continue to be enjoyed for years to come."

One part of the play area is currently cordoned off as it is deemed 'un-safe'.
