A PUB in Test Valley has bagged an award for most dog-friendly pub in the country.

The Red Rover, in West Wellow, was crowned top dog this weekend after being one of two pubs in the finals of the Dog Friendly awards.

They beat their opponents in the final of the most dog-friendly pub category.

Manager of the Red Rover, Emma Dodge, said: "The whole team at the red rover are so proud to have received this award.

"We were overjoyed to be nominated but to win was a wonderful achievement for the team who all love visits from our four legged guests.

"We are all big dog lovers and love seeing four paws come through our doors to pay us a visit."

The pub even has a dog menu which includes a rump steak and chicken and rice.

The 40-year-old added: "Being a dog friendly pub means owners can bring their dogs out and not worry about sitters or them being on their own. Dogs aren’t just pets they are family members.

"We introduced a dog menu which has been a great success and we look forward to introducing a Festive menu in the run up to Christmas so they too can enjoy a Christmas meal with the family."

This comes as Emma said she created the dog menu because it is near the New Forest and lots of people walked past with their dogs.

Emma, who lives at the pub, said: "We have a whole section for dogs, we even have an ale barrel which has paw prints all over it.

"We did it so people can be social with their dogs, they are part of the family.

"As a dog owner, I found it hard to find somewhere which is dog-friendly so the dogs can go indoors."

The awards night was at the Hilton Hotel in London on November 2, 2019.
