WINCHESTER Film Society is presenting a special performance of Buster Keaton’s 1926 classic silent film The General to a live musical accompaniment by Haiku Salut.

With a piece they’ve composed especially for the film, the film is showing on Tuesday November 19 2019 at 8pm at Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium.

The General premiered on December 31 1926. It received a poor critical reception and did badly at the box office.

Buster Keaton himself said he ''was more proud of that picture than any I ever made.''

With changing tastes and a re-evaluation of his works, audiences and critics would later agree with him, and it is now considered a major classic of the silent era.

Haiku Salut are an instrumental dream-pop-post-folk-neo-everything trio from the Derbyshire Dales.

The group consists of multi-instrumentalists Gemma Barkerwood, Sophie Barkerwood, and Louise Croft.

Between them, Haiku Salut play accordion, piano, glockenspiel, trumpet, guitar, ukulele, drums, and melodica.

Their music also features electronic elements, which they refer to as “loopery and laptopery”

Put them both together and you have a unique evening you won't want to miss.

There will be a guest introduction and the band will be available for a questions and answers at the end of the performance.

The band have previously performed this piece at the Albert Hall, London.

The Science Centre is a fantastic venue for film and free parking is available on the night.

Tickets are £12 and available to book online at www.winchesterfilmsociety.co.uk.
