A SAUSAGE produced by a Test Valley business scooped a prestigious award to become the best sausage in the country.

Greenfield Pork were awarded overall winners in the Champion of Champions Sausage category for their Braishfield Banger, a sausage created by Braishfield Pantry in Braishfield.

Greenfield Pork are a family run butchers in Andover and have been supplying Braishfield Pantry for 5 years.

Around 3 years ago, the father and son team Martin and Tom Martindale asked the Pantry if they could come up with a local ingredient, other than pork, that could be added to a Sausage, honey is what they came up with.

Braishfield Pantry's honey comes from Roselea Apiaries from Wellow but some of the bees are kept in Braishfield itself, whole grain mustard was also added and the Braishfield Banger was born.

Sharon Fielding, manager of Braishfield Pantry, said: "We are absolutely thrilled for us and of course so pleased for our butcher and honey supplier too.

"This is something massive for us all and it still hasn’t quite sunk in.

"Sales have rocketed and we have had to order triple batches to stock up."

She added: "Not only are we the best bangers in Hampshire, but are now the best in the UK and Ireland!"

In February, Greenfield Pork entered the banger in the National Sausage and Pie competition and it won the best in Hampshire with 100/100 points.

This accolade put it forward to the Champion of Champions competition and Braishfield Pantry and Greenfield pork are "very proud to have received this title".

The Braishfield Banger is exclusive the Pantry and cannot be purchased elsewhere.

Braishfield Pantry sits along side Braishfield Village Hall.
