A ROMSEY school braced the rain to celebrated their 50th anniversary by unveiling a statue of their founding patron.
The Mountbatten School, Whitenap Lane, marked their golden jubilee by revealing a statue of the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma in front of staff.
The 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma's great granddaughter, Lady Alexandra Knatchbull, was given the chance to present the statue to the public.
Lady Alexandra said: "It is a pleasure and an honour to be invited to unveil this statue of my great-grandfather on the school’s 50th Anniversary.
"This illustrates and strengthens our relationship and is a splendid tribute.
"It is a mark of 50 years of hard work and commitment by the school and its high standards.
"Congratulations, and I look forward to visiting the school many more times in the future."
Lady Alexandra was also thanked by staff and students, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers.
The event took place on Friday, November 15.
