A ROMSEY man died in his bedroom after a fall in the middle of the night.
But an inquest heard that Alan Hancock, 61, was suffering from sepsis, a blood infection, caused by an abscess on his liver which was undiagnosed.
Mr Hancock, of Chambers Avenue, fell or tripped at 4.20am on July 6 but despite the efforts of his wife Kim and paramedics he was pronounced dead.
Dr Adnan Al-Badri, consultant pathologist, told an inquest the cause of death was sepsis and hypertension. He did not believe the fall was a cause of death.
Acting area coroner Sam Marsh said Mr Hancock would have suffered symptoms from the liver condition but did not seek a GP appointment.
Mr Hancock's wife Kim, in a statement, said: "If doctors had seen Alan before his death he may have still been with me. I want to know why Alan has died and is not with me any more. He still should be with me."
In a statement his GP, Dr Ranjan Dass, of AD Surgery, on Alma Road, said the last time Mr Hancock had gone to the surgery was in 2013.
Ms Marsh recorded a verdict of death by natural causes. She said no blame could be attached to the GP as Mr Hancock would have been able to book an appointment.
In 2008 Mr Hancock won a national award as lorry driver of the year for DHL Tradeteam, while based at its Totton depot.
