CHRISTMAS is coming, the goose is getting fat - and so will many of us humans!

As we ready ourselves to tuck into turkey or nibble on nut roast, the Daily Echo takes a look into the best eateries to grab a tasty plate of roasted goodness.

We’ve pulled together a list of the top five establishments which offer a full Sunday lunch menu in Southampton, according to TripAdvisor.

Maybe you fancy putting on your Sunday best and heading to one of these restaurants - perhaps there’s somewhere else you prefer to eat.

1) Bacaro, Ironside House, Southampton

Not only is it the top Italian restaurant in Southampton according to TripAdvisor, but it offers an excellent Sunday lunch menu too.

Just a few of the extensive Sunday lunch options include beef braciola, turkey paupiettes and pan fried hake.

One reviewer said: “After hearing so many good things about the Sunday roast, myself and a friend decided to book a table. 

“The roast was undoubtedly the best roast I've ever had (sorry mum).”

2) Ceno, 119 Highfield Lane, Southampton

This Highfield based restaurant and bar prides itself on using fresh ingredients sourced from local suppliers.

The Sunday lunch menu offers roast topside of beef, slow roast pork belly, and chargrilled vegetable and chickpea tagine to name just a few.

One person said: “Excellent Sunday roast, good size portion and plenty of fresh veg.

“Had sticky ribs to start, the meat just fell off the bone.”

3) The Jetty, Ocean Village, 5 Maritime Walk, Southampton

Aside from specialising in locally-caught seafood, this restaurant with sea views also offers a full Sunday lunch menu.

Included in its selection is a trio of pork, roasted chicken, and cod and crab.

One reviewer said: “My wife and I went for Sunday lunch .

“The food was very good and well priced.

“We will definitely go again on a Sunday.”

4) Grand Cafe, 1 South Western House, Terminus Terrace, Southampton

Located in the historic South Western House, Grand Cafe has received a certificate of excellence from TripAdvisor for the last five years running.

The salivar-inducing menu includes roasted lemon and thyme butter chicken, slow braised lamb shank, and honey glazed duck breast and confit leg wellington.

One person said: “This is the place to come for the best Sunday roast combined with great atmosphere.

“There is usually a singer in the background which adds to the ambiance.”

5) Ennio’s,  Town Quay Road, Southampton

The second Italian restaurant to make the list, Ennio’s offers a traditional and authentic taste of real Italian cooking as well as a fantastic Sunday lunch.

The menu includes options such as a mixed meat platter, roast loin of pork and vegetable nut roast.

One reviewer said: “Me and a few girlfriends visited Ennio’s for Sunday lunch.

“My god it was the tastiest roast I've ever had from start to finish.”
