A CHARITY in Southampton is asking people to 'use their New Year's Resolutions' to help them run youth clubs for some of the city's most disadvantaged youngsters.

The Weston Church Youth Project (WCYP) is looking for volunteers to spare a few hours per week to help with its work offering fun drop-in sessions, open access clubs, trips and holiday activities to young people.

They have appealed for Southampton residents to join them in 2020 in helping out in and around their community.

WCYP’s Youth Engagement Coordinator, Jenni Boulter, said: “With the New Year approaching, people are starting to think about their New Year’s Resolutions and how they can do their bit.

“One of the ways people can help is by volunteering in their community and we’re asking people to get in touch with us if they can spare a few hours per week to help us offer fun drop-in, open access clubs, trips and holiday activities, designed to help build children’s social skills and self-esteem.

“We always value any skills that people can offer us, so anyone who wants to support a good cause, helping some of the most wonderful young people, would be very welcome but we would particularly value those with youth work skills who could help staff our youth clubs, as well as people with administrative or fundraising or finance experience too.

"We will provide training and complete all the necessary DBS and reference checks as well.”

WCYP is an inclusive charity which enables, encourages and equips the young people of Weston to live life to the full and to contribute to their wider community.

The neighbourhood-rooted, non-profit organisation works with some of the most disadvantaged youngsters in the area and the team is passionate about empowering young people and giving them opportunities that will impact on their lives now and in the future.

Jenni added: "It’s well known that doing good for other people makes you feel good too. It’s very rewarding knowing you have helped someone in some way. Volunteering is also great for your CV and gives you opportunities to meet new people. You can also gain new skills and increase your confidence by volunteering."
