EASTLEIGH Borough Council have released information on how best to get rid of Christmas trees as the festive period comes to a close.

A selection of recycling collection points across the borough have been outlined, and can be used to drop off the unwanted trees between January 2 and January 14.

These sites are as followed:

- Brambridge Garden Centre, Brambridge

- Lakeside Country Park, Eastleigh

- Haskins Garden Centre, West End

- Woodhouse Lane Car Park, Hedge End

- Mortimer Road Car Park, Botley

- Hound Parish Hall, Woolston Road, Netley

- Household Waste Recycling Centres

If you subscribe to the garden waste scheme, the council will collect Christmas trees on your scheduled collection day, if it is placed next to your garden bin.

But, they can only collect trees that are up to 4ft in length, so longer trees would have to be cut to this size first.

As previously reported in the Echo, similar schemes are taking place in Test Valley.

Test Valley Borough Council is hosting a real Christmas tree collection in Alma Road Car Park, near Waitrose in Romsey, as well as Knightwood Leisure Centre in Valley Park.

In Southampton, the city council has asked residents to take their real Christmas tree to the Household Waste Recycling Centre in Millbrook, where it will be recycled in to compost.

Residents that are signed up to the garden waste collection service, can put their Christmas tree in their garden waste bin for collection on their designated collection day.
