A BRAND new hit TV show has been filmed within a Hampshire country estate.

It is the gripping remake of a classic horror novel, Dracula, which aired at 9pm on New Year's Day - and it was filmed in Mottisfont.

Keen watchers spotted Mottisfont National Trust is the backdrop of Sister Agatha's workshop - which was filmed in the building's cellarium.

The final episode will air on BBC tonight, at 9pm.

The gruesome show was filmed in Mottisfont in April and July for a total of around two weeks.

Hampshire Chronicle:

Sophie Wilkinson, marketing officer for Mottisfont, said: "It was early last year they expressed interested and we were all for it - it was nice to do something different.

"It had to be a secret which was difficult at times to manage as we are open every day of the year. Luckily it was filmed somewhere we could easily close off.

"We had to keep it under wraps and keep details quiet at the time, even some staff and volunteers didn't know.

"It was very exciting to have it filmed here."

She added: "The set was used a lot in the first one but won't be used so much in the next couple.

"It was filmed in the Cellarium which is our most medieval room."

Sophie said they hope it will increase visitors to the National Trust site.

She added: "Feedback is starting to trickle through and people are beginning to be excited about it."

A spokesperson of Romsey Chamber of Commerce said: "Obviously it is good for tourism and everything else coming to the village.

"It adds to the visibility of the area when featured on TV."

Dracula is a brand new three-part series on BBC One created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat - which is a remake of the original gothic novel.

It will be available on both BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
