A ROMSEY man is walking 130 miles across four days in memory of his late grandfather.

Graham Gale, from Halterworth in Romsey, is aiming to raise £500 for a cancer charity when taking part in a 130 mile walk across the country.

He will be walking from Southmead School in Braunton to Mountbatten School, Romsey.

Southmead School is where his grandfather, also Graham Gale, worked at the beginning of his career, and the Mountbatten School where he retired.

The 25-year-old raising money said: "The reason I want to do this is that I know, as so many people do, the impact that cancer has on people everywhere and if I can go through four or five days of pain to decrease someone else's suffering, then it it so so so worthwhile.

"I hope to complete the walk over four days - so I will start on the Saturday and finish on the Tuesday.

"I will be on my own for most of it but my family will meet me at pit stops for refreshments so I don't have to carry it around with me."

Graham will walk on April 4, 2020 which would have been his grandfather's birthday.

Graham added: "I do a lot of cycling as it is but walking will definitely be a challenge - I will try to run parts of it to speed up the walk.

"I wanted to get the JustGiving page up early so it would motivate and make sure I will do it.

"I was hoping to raise £500 but I may need to increase it once I have ran since people have already been so kind already.

"I am really looking forward to it but a bit nervous as I haven't done anything on this scale on a personal level before."

Graham will be raising the money throughout the lead up and during his walk, with all funds being donated to Cancer Research UK.
