A ROMSEY girl has raised hundreds of pounds in a bid to help her friend with a brain tumour.

Rosie Cox, who attends the Romsey School, raked in £660 in four days to help fund Brooke Leavey's treatment.

Brooke, 11, who is from Hedge End, was diagnosed with the tumour in April 2019 at Southampton General Hospital and has undergone a six week treatment at University College London to help shrink the tumour.

Now Rosie is going to have all of her hair cut off to help fund Brooke travelling to New York every month to undergo treatment.

Rosie's mum, Karen Osman, said: "When Rosie found out Brooke was poorly she wanted to do something to raise money for her.

"Brooke has exhausted all the treatment on the NHS and she is having to go to New York for treatment, which is very expensive.

"Rosie has known Brooke since they went to Berrywood Primary School and she has smashed her target of £500.

"She is very excited to get her hair cut and was really shocked to have raised the money so quickly as she was nervous to ask to start with; I didn't think she appreciated how much she was able to raise."

A friend of Brooke's family who is helping with the fundraising, Suzie Beadle, said: "We have been absolutely lost for words and are overwhelmed with everyone who seems to have been taken aback by Brooke's story.

"Rosie has been amazing and it is a big decision for her to cut her hair off.

"We hope Brooke's treatment will help relieve some of the symptoms she has, such as losing some of the weight she gained from taking steroids and is able to walk around, as her parents have bought her an electric wheelchair."

Rosie is also planning to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust.

Rosie will have her hair cut on January 16 at Dovey&Broom Hairdressing, Abbey Walk.
