SALISBURY’S Studio Theatre is hosting a series of comedy nights.

Studio Theatre Stands Up! is a new venture for the theatre in Ashley Road and kicks off with Paul McCaffrey, whose CV includes TV appearances on Live At The Apollo and Russell Howard’s Good News.

Paul has recently appeared on major UK tours with two of Britain’s foremost stand-ups, Sean Lock and Kevin Bridges, and has also been the support act for Michael McIntyre, John Bishop and Lee Mack. He is about to embark on a five-month, nationwide tour, headlining his own show Lemon.

Compering this and subsequent dates is professional stand-up and former Bishop Wordsworth’s School pupil Andrew White, aged 20

Andrew, who lives in Alderholt, is already a three-time veteran of Edinburgh Fringe and has taken his own stand-up set to clubs all over the countryin the two years since he turned professional.

But he first took to the comedy mic while he was still at school. He said: “I did my first ever gig at Salisbury Arts Centre and my first proper show at Studio Theatre.

“The freedom of stand-up is appealing and it’s been great socially - I’ve made a lot of friends along the way.”

He says he plans to bring names to Salisbury, who might not otherwise have the city on their radar.

“Many of the acts lined up are circuit veterans and have been killing it in top clubs, but would not have the opportunity to tour to Salisbury without this night. People would have to travel to London or other big cities to see them and here they are on their doorstep.”

Studio Theatre Stands Up! is on February 5, April 1 and June 3, 7.30pm. Tickets are £10, available at ticketsource.co.uk/studiotheatresalisbury or on the door. Age guidance 16 plus.
