A ROMSEY hedgehog rescuer is advising that due to recent storms hedgehogs are in need of urgent help.

Pip Hollingworth, also known as 'Romsey Hedgehog Lady' is a Vale Wildlife Hospital qualified hedgehog specialist and runs a home based hedgehog clinic and rehabilitation centre.

Pip is concerned that due to recent storms which have made much wildlife homeless - hedgehogs are walking around in the day.

She said: "Please keep an eye out for hedgehogs wandering about in the day.

"Unless moving with purpose such as carrying nest materials or rebuilding a disturbed nest; any hedgehog out in the day needs help now.

"Please do not just shove it under a hedge, if it is sick or injured it needs warmth.

"Pick it up in an old towel, place in a deep box or crate and call me immediately. Meanwhile, mild temperatures have caused many hedgehogs to come out of hibernation.

"Little of their natural diet is available at this time of year. Please help them by providing dry cat food, or wet cat or dog food and bowl of water in your garden.”
