PLANS have been tabled to demolish a golf clubhouse and build a new steak house - creating 50 new jobs.

A planning application was submitted to Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) to create a new Miller & Carter at Chilworth Golf Club.

If approved, the steak house will boast 193 car parking spaces and 16 cycle spaces. The restaurant would be open from 8am to 12.30am from Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays.

Cllr Nick Adams-King, who represents Blackwater on the borough council, said: “I’m pleased to see another firm investing in Test Valley.

“Their application shows confidence in our area and offers greater choice for local people. I’m sure our planning team will take into account the comments of local residents and will pay particular attention to design and highway access given the importance of the proposed location between Chilworth and North Baddesley.

“I’d encourage anyone interested to look at the proposal online and make sure their opinions are registered.”

A document submitted by the applicant, Mitchells & Butlers PLC and Manor Golf Company, reads: “The development proposal will demolish the existing golf clubhouse and will create a restaurant to be operated by Mitchells & Butlers as a Miller & Carter Steakhouse restaurant on this part of the site. The proposed restaurant will provide a complementary function to Chilworth Golf Club, providing a restaurant for golf club members and the public.”

“The golf clubhouse is to be relocated to the southern part of the site; the golf clubhouse will provide a club shop, and a lounge area where members can relax before or after a game of golf with light refreshments available.”

The document added the driving range will be “moved further west, which will provide new covered bays to replace” old ones on the site.

“The golf club car park will provide 130 parking spaces south of the restaurant car park, including five disabled spaces outside the entrance to the clubhouse”, according to the planning document.

Miller & Carter is owned and operated by Mitchells and Butlers PLC, who run around 1,700 restaurants and pubs across the UK.

Mitchells and Butlers PLC has been contacted for comment.

A decision will be made by councillors on May 8.
