AN 86-YEAR-OLD Romsey pensioner will be taking place in an eight mile walk and cannot wait to register.

Romsey veteran walker, Thelma Dowling is waiting to register again to Walk the Test Way on Sunday, September 27 2020 when she will be entering the walk for her eighth consecutive time.

She has previously twice walked the full 25.5 mile course, once on the 12 mile course, and now limits herself to eight miles.

Surrounded by many trophies and medallions that she has earned on a variety of runs and walks over the years, Thelma explains that she started running keep fit classes in 1965 and had kept that up ever since which helped to keep her in good condition.

She also takes part in the Romsey five mile run at Broadlands, although this year expects to walk rather than run.

Thelma says Walk the Test Way, organised by the Rotary Club of Romsey Test, is a well-organised walk.

Walkers will register in Crosfield Hall with the option of a breakfast cooked by the scouts, be moved to the starting point by coaches, and have friendly marshals all along the route.

She said: "They are always cheerful and encouraging as you pass by and can offer more water or advice on the nearest toilet."

She also loves arriving at the finish in the Memorial Park where there is a great welcome, with music and refreshments, and even first aid for any sore feet.

Thelma looks forward to many more years to come.

The registration will open on March 1, 2020.
