"I was devastated".

"I am gutted".

These are the words of a bride-to-be after discovering her wedding costing £10,000 had been cancelled amid coronavirus fears.

Holly Pidgley and Darren Angoy, from Ampfield, were set to tie the knot on Saturday, May 30, but their dream day was cut short this year after both venues cancelled on the pair over cornavirus fears.

Now the childhood sweethearts, who met in year 7 at Mountbatten School, have revealed they cannot rescheduled their wedding until the tide starts to turn in the fight against coronavirus.

Holly, 32, said: "We were meant to have our wedding at St Marks Church in Ampfield, but with everything that is going on in the world the churches are now closed and we cannot legally get married.

"The church had to cancel on us, although they refunded us £600, and now we cannot book another date until they are open, so we are in limbo unless we go for next year.

"I phoned up South Winchester Golf Club and our deposit was non-refundable so we lost £1,500; the golf club had to postpone our date and asked us to choose another one, but it is really hard because you can't do anything until this lockdown is up.

"It is rubbish especially after we have been together for 12 years and it took him ten years to ask, because he said he needed to make sure I was wife material.

"I am gutted because I could not wait to be his wife and it is not knowing the date that is driving me mad."

The head of care at Edwina Mountbatten House added: "We were due to have 120 people come to the wedding and my mum is really upset it had to be cancelled; with older members of the family there is no way they could come until at least the end of the year because of social distancing, which puts a damper on it. "Darren was upset, but he said 'you will get your day and it will be everything you dreamed of'.

"We will still have a pretend wedding day at the end of May where our children will marry us off and we will have our first dance, so we will try to make it fun.

"There were also 22 of us who were going on my hen do, so instead I had a home one with my daughters."

When asked how Darren proposed to Holly, she said he "got down one one knee" after dinner in Fuerteventura, adding "he is my soulmate".

The couple found out on March 18 their wedding was cancelled.
