Gosport father with Squamous Cell Carcinoma with weeks to live

Jutt Compton, 41, had initially found a small lump inside his nose and shortly after visiting the doctors, was told it could be a tumour.

After running scans, doctors confirmed he had Squamous Cell Carcinoma - a form of skin cancer - in his left sinus, which has now broken through the skin and left him blind in his left eye.

But after two years of being given the all-clear following chemotherapy and an operation, the cancer returned.

Jutt, from Gosport, was then told last week that he had between weeks and months left to live if he is lucky.

Him and his wife Samantha broke the news to their three sons Mason, nine, Archie, six, and five-year-old Gage, and Jutt’s two other children Kylie and Phoenix.

Samantha, 29, said: “I can’t imagine at their age being told what we had to tell them, I’m really proud of them and we don’t want to hide anything.

“Doctors took away his sinus which left him with an empty cavity, and has in turn allowed it to spread as quickly as it has.

“He also had radiotherapy in December, but every month from then the tumour on his face tripled in size.”

The family has spent several trips travelling to Southampton General Hospital for Jutt’s treatment, but he has now decided to stop the chemotherapy.

Jutt, who has been married to Samantha for six years, faced redundancy last year, while she had to take six weeks unpaid leave due to the Covid-19 crisis.

Samantha added: “If he continued with it, it would only be for comfortability to reduce swelling and it could be fatal within days. Deep down, I knew it was coming.

“Jutt is the love of my life and my hero. I’m so proud of him to make the hardest decision he’s ever made, and I know he’s doing it for the right reasons.”

Her best friend Claire Harris, also 29, has since decided to launch a fundraiser to raise money for Jutt’s funeral fund.

The campaign has raised over £2,400 and aims to reach £5,000.

“I hope our boys live up to his legacy. It doesn’t matter how far I dig into my soul, thank you will never seem enough.

“Everyone who has donated has given our family such relief at such a hard time,” said Samantha.

Claire said: “I wanted to ease the worrying of paying for a funeral for the family when they should be spending these last few weeks together in peace.

“At 41, no one sets money aside for their funeral and I didn’t want Jutt to feel like he was leaving Sammie with a financial burden.”
