ONE of the New Forest's biggest summer events - the Ellingham Show - has been cancelled because of Covid-19.
The show was not due to take place until August 8 and its supporters had hoped it would go ahead as planned.
But the Ellingham and Ringwood Agricultural Society has abandoned preparations for the one-day event.
Chairman Steve Thompson said: “We have tried our very hardest to keep believing and planning for our show. But, in the interest of everybody’s health and safety, and out of respect for all who have suffered and continue to suffer in this crisis, we are now calling a halt on any further preparations for this year.
"As social distancing looks set to continue, and with no clear date by when mass gatherings will be allowed, I’m afraid we have no choice."
The show, which is held in the grounds of Somerley House, near Ringwood, attracts thousands of spectators.
