SEVEN people have been re-arrested in connection with the murder of a 41-year-old man in Corhampton almost a year ago.

The body of Gurinderjit Rai, a "devoted and loving" father-of-two from Eastleigh, was found in Shepherds Farm Lane on July 13, 2019. He had died as a result of shotgun wounds, with police believing it was a “targeted incident”.

Detectives investigating the death have today (Tuesday) re-arrested seven people and they are all currently in police custody.

They are:

• A 30-year-old man from Winchester, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder

• A 42-year-old man from Owslebury, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder

• A 32-year-old man from Climping, West Sussex, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder

• A 40-year-old man from Southampton, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder

• A 26-year-old man from Winchester, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder

• A 32-year-old man from Winchester, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder

• A 29-year-old man from Eastleigh, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder

A total of 18 people have now been arrested as part of the subsequent investigation.

In a tribute following his death Mr Rai's family said: “Gurinderjit was a devoted father to his two young children and a loving fiancé to his partner. He adored his parents.

"He had an infectious sense of humour and would always find the best of any situation. He was a principled man and would always be the first to offer help to those that needed it. He will be missed dearly by all his family and friends."

An inquest into Mr Rai's death was opened in July last year. Acting area coroner Samantha Marsh said a post mortem found he died of "shotgun wounds to the head and neck".
