POLICE are investigating a spate of thefts from cars in the same part of Hampshire.

Cash, a camera worth more than £6,000 and number plates are among the items that have been taken from vehicles parked in Bursledon, Hedge End and Netley.

Police say would-be thieves are also searching unlocked vehicles for items such as sunglasses, loose change and keys.

A post on the Hedge End Cops Facebook page says: "Please keep your car locked and remove all valuable property, including any bags and coats. Pull your car handle to check it's locked.

"Thieves have and will, break into cars for bags and coats, due to the possibility they may contain valuables."

Three of the recent thefts occurred in Bursledon.

Cash was stolen from cars parked in Le Marechal Avenue and Devonshire Gardens. Money was also taken from a vehicle in Bowers Drive, along with Iphone cables.

A Nikon camera worth £6,600 was taken from a car in Mallow Road, Hedge End.

The Hedge End Cops post says: "If you see people trying vehicle door handles please call 999 at the time - please don't wait until the morning.

"The control room will deploy the nearest police officers, as long as the officers are not already dealing with a higher priority incident."
