PUPILS at a Romsey school celebrated their last week at school before they finished for the Summer.

As part of the celebrations, Year 6 children at Romsey Abbey C of E Primary School, Church Lane, had their Leavers Service on Friday.

The service would normally be held in Romsey Abbey, but this year it was held on the school's field, due to coronavirus.

Year 6 teacher, Connie Hammond, said: "We had a brilliant two weeks, despite having Year 6 in two bubbles.

"We managed to make the last few days in primary school a wonderful time to remember.

"The pupils did a wide variety of activities, including using junk to create a contraption to keep an egg safe; we dropped these off the tree house and only had one casualty.”

She added: “We held a sports day between the two bubbles and this just the usual sports day races, but on Monday we had a ‘silly’ sports day with lots of funny activities: obstacle races, skipping races, filling water bottle relays, getting a ball down some gutters and a penalty shoot-out.

"This involved lots of concentration and the pupils all really enjoyed encouraging each other to succeed.

"A test of endurance came on Tuesday, as this was our survival day.

"Pupils were not allowed to bring any tents, but could have tarpaulins and ropes which they used, in the morning, to make the dens in the woods finishing in time to eat lunch in them.

She highlighted pupils learnt "how to strike fires and both bubbles were successful to get kettles to boil on their fires to make hot chocolate".

Mrs Hammond said: “Continuing the fun-filled week, we had a Bake-Off competition on Wednesday with all pupils bringing in a cake they had made at home.

"All the cakes were very different and they were all brilliant."

These activities happened between Friday, July 10 and Wednesday, July 15.
