A ROMSEY care home has been given dozens of homemade gift bags, created by members of the Romsey Baptist Church.

The care team at Abbotswood Court Care Home, Minchin Road, received more than 90 gift bags after the church minister, Jonathan Beer, was "eager to acknowledge the [cares] hard work", according to home admissions advisor, Annya Sait.

Now, the general manager for the care home has shared his thoughts on the surprise amid the pandemic.

Lea Wintle said: "Gestures such as this really do lift our team members, who have been extraordinary in their commitment, hard work and resilience throughout the pandemic in keeping everyone at Abbotswood Court safe and well.

"We send our heartfelt thanks to Jonathan and all of the church members, who took the time to create the gift bags, and look forward to a time when we can invite them to join us for their own treat of an afternoon tea."

The gifts were received on Thursday, July 16.

This comes after a mass Happy Birthday singalong was given to a 100-year-old Romsey woman by her friends and family on Sunday, July 5, outside of the care home.

Muriel Clarke has lived in Romsey for 47 years and that weekend "30 of her friends and family" stood in front of the care home to wish her happy birthday, along with the Halfpenny family brass group who played a few songs for the centenarian.
