A FISHERMAN was "shocked" when a large sea creature suddenly hooked onto his line.
Dan Cunningham was fishing for seabass at Lepe Beach on Saturday evening when he unexpectedly caught a large stingray.
The 29-year-old carer, from Southampton, said it was the first time he has ever fished at the Hampshire seafront, near the New Forest.
He usually fishes at Southampton waterfront and travels to Hayling Island, but has had no luck before.
Dan said: "I was fishing and looking for seabass, until something slapped my rod, and I ended up with a stingray.
"I was absolutely shocked and was just over the moon, I still am. I can't believe it."
He said he has never caught a stingray before, and that it was returned to the sea safely afterwards, at around 9pm.
Dan also caught a small sea bass on the same day.
