Boots Opticians in Shirley is due to close following an announcement by the company.

Boots said last month that the company would be restructuring in order to mitigate the significant impact that Covid 19 has had on the business.

This is too ensure a long and healthy future for the UK's leading pharmacy, health and beauty business.

This restructuring plan will mean the closure of 48 Boots Opticians practices, including the Shirley branch, and the cutting of 4000 jobs across the company.

The practise located on Shirley High Street is one of many that are feeling the affects of Covid 19 and the inplication's lockdown has had on High Streets around the country.

A Boots UK spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we have identified the Opticians stores that are proposed to close and have entered a consultation period.

"We recognise this is a difficult time for any colleagues that are impacted and are doing everything we can to support them throughout this process.

"Over the next few weeks, we will be speaking to all of our customers individually if their store is affected about how we will support their transition to another Boots Opticians nearby."

Despite the pandemic, Boots had stayed open throughout lockdown in order to provide communities with pharmacy and healthcare services.

"In doing this, we are building a stronger and more modern Boots for our customers, patients and colleagues.

"We recognise that the proposals will be very difficult for the remarkable people who make up the heart of our business, and we will do everything in our power to provide the fullest support during this time.”
