A Romsey business group has announced their new president amid coronavirus.

Romsey & District Chamber of Commerce and Industry revealed the managing director of Wathen Marine Catering Equipment Services, Ieuan Wathen, will now spearhead the group.

Ieuan will succeed the owner of Humbugs Confectioners, Peter Speirs, who was the president since 2012 and will remain on the chamber's newly elected executive committee.

Ieuan, 47, said: "Peter has done an amazing job for the chamber over many years and hands over the presidency with the chamber in a strong position, with healthy finances and a loyal membership base from across the town and the wider area."

He added: "We are looking forward to getting chamber activities established again after the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and we held our first face to face networking meeting outside at La Parisienne in Bell Street last week.

"I will also be looking to introduce new organisations to the benefits of chamber membership over the coming months.”

Ieuan will now head up an "executive team of 11, assisted by vice president, Julian Gee of Spitfire Marketing, and newly elected treasurer Paul Tilley of Wilkins Kennedy, who takes over from Nick Whitemore (also of Wilkins Kennedy) after three years in the role," according to a spokesperson for the business group.

The new president was announced at the group's annual general meeting on July 15.

Ieuan also won the Small Business of the Year in the 2018 Test Valley Business Awards.
