PARENTS have been warned man was “acting strangely” outside an infant school in Southampton.

Headteacher of Weston Shore Infant School sent a letter to parents after a member of the lunch team saw a man acting strangely in Westwoods whilst the children were playing at lunch on September 7.

The letter from Vanessa Ridler said: “He was close to the fence but was still visible and appeared to be in a state of undress.

“The lunch staff immediately lined the children up away from the field and the children quickly returned to class.

“The police were called and carried out a search of Westwoods.

“I would like to reassure you that safeguarding your children is our highest priority and our procedures today were followed quickly by staff.

“The children followed the lockdown procedure really well and have not spoken about the incident but are aware that something has happened to trigger the lockdown.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: “We can confirm that we were called to an incident at 12.29pm yesterday afternoon (September 7) at Weston Shore infant school following reports of an indecent exposure.

“Officers carried out an extensive search of the area but were unable to locate anyone matching the description provided by witnesses.

“The investigation, and attempts to identify the suspect, are ongoing.”
