TWO photos: the same person 94 years apart.

Vera Hall is pictured in the front row second from the right in Class III at St Bartholomews school in Hyde in about 1926. She is about five years of age.

Vera celebrated her 99th birthday on Saturday September 12 and has lived in Hyde for nearly all her life.

The second photo was taken by Sarah Hall at Brendoncare Park Road, on Vera’s birthday. The care home is only about half a mile from where the school used to stand, just off King Alfred’s Place and Saxon Road.

St Bartholomew’s school was built in the Victorian era and was used as a primary school until the 1960s when the children transferred to the current St Bede school site on Gordon Road.

The old building was latterly used by the county council as a general store until it was demolished in the early 1980s. There are now retirement flats on the site.
