CASES of coronavirus have been confirmed at three separate schools in the last two days.

A student from Thornden School in Chandler's Ford has tested positive for the virus, as confirmed yesterday by a letter to parents from headteacher Mr Hicks.

A number of children who have been in close contact with the student have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

It is not known what year the student is in.

The school is still open and children are expected to return as normal if they remain well.

In the letter, Mr Hicks said: "We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the school.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness."

Another school that has a positive case of coronavirus is Hounsdown School in Totton. The cases was confirmed by Hampshire County Council (HCC) on October 5.

A third school, The Westgate School in Winchester, has also reported a positive case of coronavirus confirmed on the HCC website.

Both schools remain open at this time.
