WINCHESTER schools have reported more cases of coronavirus, some confirming their second positive tests since pupils returned.

Kings’ School has today (Friday) told parents and carers that another member of the school community has tested positive for Covid-19.

It is the third case of the virus that the school has reported, the first two confirmed in early October.

Acting headteacher Rob Jeckells said in a letter: “We have been made aware of a member of our school community who has tested positive for Covid-19.

“We know that you may find this concerning, but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England. This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child. Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

“The small number of children who have been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for 14 days.

“The school remains open and your child should continue to attend as normal if they remain well.”

Earlier this week Bishop’s Waltham Junior School told Hampshire County Council that it has a case of coronavirus. It is not known how many people at the school have tested positive.

It comes a month after the school told the council, which is in charge of public health for the county, that it had a case.

Similarly, The Westgate school has reported a further case after it reported that someone in the school’s community tested positive in October.

St Faith’s Church of England Primary School, in St Cross, Winchester, has also confirmed a case with the council.

Swanmore College has also told parents and carers that it has a positive case.

All schools reopen open at the time of publication.
