A SCHOOL has made the decision to close due to a positive case of Covid-19.

Headteacher of Abbotswood Junior School on Ringwood Road, Totton, Mr Glenn Moore, confirmed the news in a letter to parents yesterday.

The decision was made following a positive Covid case within the school and whilst staff await further guidance.

The school, which has over 600 pupils, will now be closed as of today (November 19) with it not yet clear when it will reopen.

A second letter is also being sent out to children in relation to home learning.

The school claims that the closure is just a "precaution" and not as a result of a "widespread outbreak".

Staff are in consultation with Public Health England and parents are expected to receive further updates throughout the day.

In the letter, headteacher, Mr Moore wrote: "This decision has not been taken lightly but the Health and Safety of our pupils and staff is always of paramount importance.

"I would like to reassure the whole school community that we continue to follow Government guidance in terms of social distancing, handwashing and cleanliness to minimise the spread of the virus."
