A MAN will be sentenced for trying to meet a child at a Sutton Scotney service station for sexual activity.

Lance Baynes appeared at Winchester Crown Court today (Monday) having previously pleaded guilty to the offence which took place on August 21 this year.

Officers from Hampshire police’s Internet Child Abuse Team previously charged Baynes after he had arranged to meet a child for sexual activity at the services on the A34.

During the hearing, Baynes pleaded guilty to further charges which all took place in Staffordshire.

He admitted to communicating with a child for sexual gratification on June 15 and contacting others on social media for indecent images of children.

The 47-year-old also pleaded guilty to making 1,430 indecent images of children of categories A, B and C between January 30 and August 22 this year, along with distributing 20 indecent images of children between June 15 and August 21, 2020.

Baynes, of Cedar Close, Walsall, was due to be sentenced today but a pre-sentence report previously ordered by the court had yet to be carried out.

He will appear at the same court on December 22 to be sentenced on all charges.

Judge Hill, Assistant Judge Advocate General, said: “You will be sentenced then and that will be finality for you then.”

Baynes was remanded back into custody.
