A NEW national lockdown could be coming, as the Government faces more pressures dealing with a virus that is "out of control".

The Daily Mail reported the Government’s key “Covid-O” committee that oversees restrictions is expected to meet today, January 4, to decide changes to the coronavirus regime.

After Prime Minister Boris Johnson signalled tougher restrictions would be brought in within weeks however, pressure has mounted on the Government to act far more swiftly as Labour demanded a lockdown within hours.

Taking to Twitter Labour leader Keir Starmer described the virus as "clearly out of control".

He said: "It’s not good enough for the Prime Minister to hint at further restrictions at unspecified times and then do nothing.

"He must put national restrictions in place within the next 24 hours. No more dither, no more delay."

Locally, Romsey and Test Valley are currently in Tier 4.

The stricter rules mean that pubs, restaurants and bars are closed until further notice, but are allowed to operate a takeaway service.
