SIR: When the Conservative-run city council drew up plans for Station Approach, including office space, it was heralded as an ideally located, worthy initiative addressing the needs of individuals and companies.

The Covid-19 pandemic‎ has changed the way companies and people function. Many work from home, visiting HQ perhaps once a week. Further, companies are seeking to reduce expensive London office-space for flexible work-spaces outside the capital. Winchester is ideal.

The original Conservative city council-inspired Station Approach project together with a sizeable grant, was scuppered seemingly by one individual's interference.

Now the city council is stating (Chronicle January 7) that 'it envisaged a major office development at Station Approach to broaden the city's economy'.

Station Approach was the original initiative of the Conservative-led city ‎council. Time has been lost; Covid-19 is a reality. Companies will seek flexible office space and Station Approach is an ideal location.

‎Had the original Conservative city council plans not been hijacked, we would be closer to providing what the market requires thus benefitting Winchester.

Optimistically we will see our way through this pandemic. And perhaps everyone will be kinder and work together.
