ROAD USERS are being advised to plan ahead if travelling on the M27 from today.

A series of overnight closures are set to be put in place in both directions to allow essential work to take place.

Night-time closures are required on both carriageways between junctions 4 (for the M3 interchange) and 11 (for the Wallington Interchange) to allow for gantry installations.

The works will be taking place from 10pm to 6am, starting today until January 31.

All diversions will be fully sign posted and drivers using this stretch of road are advised to plan ahead and leave extra time for journeys.

In addition, with traffic levels on the M27 reduced since latest national lockdown restrictions were announced, Highways England is using the opportunity to press ahead with vital motorway upgrades using a series of daytime lane closures.

The M27 will be temporarily reduced to two lanes between junction 7 (for Hedge End) and junction 8 (for Windhover/Sholing) on the westbound carriageway.

This will take place from 6am until 8pm each day, from today until January 31.

On the eastbound carriageway between junctions 7 and 8 the reduction to two lanes will take place from 10pm on January 22 until 6am on February 1 to facilitate daytime sheet piling work.

This will enable Highways England to safely complete the vital work during the day as well as overnight, while respecting Government Covid-19 restrictions.

This arrangement is being kept under constant review and more information on closures and live traffic updates can be found on the Highways England website.
