AFTER dedicating the month of March to a ‘Walk All Over Cancer’ charity fundraiser, teams at West Downs Day Nursery in Winchester were delighted to exceed their targets and raise over £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.
With the help of a special target meter window display, families and colleagues from the day nursery on Romsey Road monitored progress towards the goal of 5,200,000 steps over the month, which they exceeded with an final figure of 6,438,965 steps and £1,015 in donations.
Other fundraising throughout March included an Easter sweepstake for colleagues, as well as a ‘guess how many eggs in jar’ competition for families, taking the total for the month to £1,517.47.
Nursery team leader Amy Stubbington said: “We are so proud of the collective effort that has been made to reach over six million steps throughout the month and are thrilled to be making this donation to Cancer Research UK.
"We have also had some wonderful feedback from our nursery families as this challenge has encouraged them to discover new walks and find different ways to keep moving. We are now looking forward to planning summer fundraisers.”
West Downs adopted Cancer Research UK in 2020 for a year-long fundraising drive, which has now been extended until the end of 2021 due to Covid-19 as the charity are currently facing predicted losses of 20-25 per cent in fundraising income.
