CUMBRIA Voluntary Service have launched their ‘Get into volunteering’ scheme.

The service will be running sessions online for a week starting from June 4 as part of National Volunteers’ Week.

Cumbria Volunteering service will be working with a number charities from all around the county to produce 15 online events for people to get more information on what getting involved in volunteering is like and the different charities that you can help out with.

Some of the charities that will be taking part in the week long event are Workington Playgoers Theatre Royal Workington, Hospice at Home, Eden Carers ,Animal Rescue Cumbria and North West Ambulance.

Judith Smale, Volunteering Manager at CVS, said: “Volunteering not only benefits communities, individuals, and the environment but is an extremely rewarding experience for those who offer to help. It’s a way of learning new skills, helps boost confidence.”

Between them all these groups offer every kind of volunteering opportunity from working in the box office on the night of a play to collecting prescriptions and dog walking for people who can no longer do it themselves .

The events kick off on June 1 with an hour long talk from Cumbria County Council Voluntary Social Car Scheme that is currently looking for drivers and co-ordinators to join their volunteering team.

Maria, 36, of Carlisle, has volunteered with Cumbria CVS for the past nine months as a Digital Volunteer from home , she said: “Volunteering with Cumbria CVS has had such a positive impact on my life. It allows me to help organisations provide much-needed support. Doing something so fun and flexible that also has a positive impact on others is a great feeling.”
