A "SELFISH" fly-tipper who dumped a pile of rubbish in the middle of a road has been slammed by a councillor.

Pieces of wood, plastic bags and debris were discarded in Ridge Lane, near the Romsey Crematorium, according to county councillor Nick Adams-King.

Now the chase is on to track down the culprit after the illegally dumped rubbish was found "at the entrance to the old quarry", according to a Facebook post from Mr Adams-King.

It is believed the rubbish was ditched overnight, according to Thursday's (May 13) post.

The newly-elected county councillor for Romsey Rural is now urging residents to help Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) find the offender and said: "Can you help with any evidence of the anti-social, selfish individuals who dumped it?

"Do you recognise the waste which appears to come from some house refurbishment work?"

The deputy leader for TVBC stressed the fly-tip is already being investigated in a bid to find evidence that could help locate the person.

He added if anyone recognises the fly-tip or saw anything suspicious, they should private message Mr Adams-King or call TVBC's environmental enforcement team on 01794 527700.

This comes after plastic cables were spotted in the River Blackwater by a bridge on Ridge Lane, which runs between Ower and Pauncefoot Hill, in what is believed to be a separate incident.

The illegally dumped rubbish was discovered at "the end of April", Mr Adams-King confirmed.

However, he stressed after speaking to landowners and a fishing club, the local authority is looking to crackdown on fly-tippers who could be regularly offloading rubbish in the river.

Mr Adams-King said: "We spoke to landowners and the Test Valley Angling Club, that has access to that part of the river, and they said it has been a very regular occurrence that stuff is dumped there.

"We [TVBC] think it is probably the same person doing it on a regular basis, so we are looking at ways by which we can monitor that area more frequently."
