From footballers to local councillors and volunteers, the community has rallied to prevent permanent closure of the library in North Baddesley.

The library was left with no technology to operate after Hampshire County Council took back their property but with the help of MP, Caroline Nokes, Test Valley Cllr, Alan Dowden and a transition grant from County Council, the library is back open.

The funding paid for two new laptops, Wi-Fi connection, a reception desk with a plastic screen for social distancing and many other essential items now the library has a non-digital borrowing system.

Ex Southampton football player, Matt Le Tissier even paid a visit to give his blessings.

Library committee member, Debbie Evenhand says: “Thank you to everyone for their generous donations, they are much appreciated. Hampshire Library Service left the existing stock but no longer supplies any new books. The donated books will also replace any old books and those in a bad condition.

It has taken a lot of hard work and time to prepare the library stock ready for this new exciting venture.

“With the lifting of Covid restrictions, it is hoped that groups will return to use the library for their meetings.

“A local slimming group will meet at the library as from this week for their regular meetings.

“We are looking to reintroduce Craft sessions for children during the school holidays as well as a puzzle swap table.

“Fund raising has already started with our first very successful book sale this week, thank you to all who supported us.”

The library opening hours are 10am to 12pm, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Tuesday 2pm to 4pm and closed on Sunday.
