The Mayor of Romsey Town, Cllr Karen Dunleavey officially opened the new lift in the Town Hall on July 27.

The lift will allow for easier access to the second floor which hosts an array of events including the popular Romsey Antique Collectibles and Arts Fair which recently returned to the town after lock down.

The Council Chamber situated on the second floor is a large room and can be used for weddings, conferences and film shows.

The Town Hall has been looking to install a lift for the past 20 years and installation finally began at the beginning of January 2021.

Chief officer, Judith Giles said: “I am delighted the Town Hall now has a lift that can take people from the ground floor to the second floor Council Chamber. This will enable greater usage of the Council Chamber which can accommodate 150 theatre style.”

The Town Hall would now like to hire out the Council Chamber for more events.
