A charity has received over £2,000 in funding to continue its work in supporting children and young people.

Romsey based charity, Youth Options was one of three organisations awarded funding from the Mayor of Winchester charity.

Each year the new Mayor picks local charities to support during their time in post who supported by the Mayor, plan fundraising events to raise money to support the local community.

However, just months after Councillor Patrick Cunningham began his tenure, Covid-19 hit changing the way that the Mayor could support his chosen charities.

Despite this though, the Mayors Office presented Youth Options with a cheque for £2,478 to help support children and young people across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

To celebrate, the Mayor held a reception at Winchester College to celebrate Cllr Cunningham’s retirement and present the cheques to the charities involved.

Madeleine Durie, Youth Options CEO said: “Youth Options works with children and young people to improve their life chances. Cllr Cunningham spoke about the impact of the pandemic on everyone and of course, we know that the consequences of Covid has hit young people particularly hard, especially their mental health and self-confidence.

"We knew that the usual fundraising activities that the Mayor of Winchester supports were not able to happen last year so we were so pleased that Cllr Cunningham was still able to give a donation towards our work”
