THE NHS trust behind mental health and learning disability services in Hampshire will speak with the public.

Southern Health is inviting people to join its Annual Members Meeting on Thursday September 30, between 6pm and 8pm.

The event will highlight how the trust continues to respond to the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, as well as showcase some of the new ways it is supporting patients, carers and staff.

Lynne Hunt, Chair of Southern Health, said: “I am looking forward welcoming everyone to this year’s event. It is a great opportunity to talk about the work we are doing, particularly our new initiative to employ people who are carers to their loved ones, so we can learn from them. As well as developing our services to offer environments that enhance recovery, whether that be on our wards or in our community.”

“It’s been such a challenging year for so many people and it’s crucial to pause and reflect on what we have experienced, what we have achieved, and how we move forwards. That’s what this event is all about.”

Attendees will hear about about the multimillion-pound investment into major refurbishments at mental health facilities, including the Poppy Ward at Gosport War Memorial Hospital.

During the evening Jonathan Pritchard, associate director of housing, will talk about his new role in supporting patients to find suitable accommodation.

Chief executive, Ron Shields, will also be providing a review of the year.

He said: "This will be my second Annual Members Meeting as Chief Executive and it’s a great time to reflect on the last year of incredible work of our staff, particularly during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

"We also welcome the opportunity for you to ask questions to Governors, Executive Board members and staff. Join us to learn about our progress and important plans for 2022."
